The Loss Control Rep provides leadership and direction in HSLP programs to achieve zero harm.

Essential Duties

  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis, Risk Assessment, MSHA regulations and inspections.

  • High organizational and leadership skills, ability to lead teams and assist with developing safety programs.

  • Strong written and verbal skills, including public speaking.

  • Creative and open to trying new things. Self-motivated and desire to advance.

  • Identify and assist with HSLP training at all levels to ensure that the Loss Control philosophy is maintained throughout the organization.

  • Provide support to site operations personnel in ensuring adequate resources, equipment, and personnel are provided to address HSLP issues.

  • Assist with development of overall communication strategies to ensure that the strategies, goals and programs are properly implemented.

  • Provide daily guidance and direction in HSLP programs at the employee / supervisor level to ensure a common and effective approach.

  • Work with site personnel to ensure they have necessary knowledge of HSLP standards perform their work in a safe, efficient manner.

  • Work with state, federal and local authorities to ensure regulations are reasonable and that compliance to regulations are met.

  • Audit all assigned areas for HSLP compliance requiring knowledge of both company policies and procedures and MSHA regulations.

  • Responsible for assisting in the identification of possible losses; evaluating the risk in such loss exposure; developing and implementing a plan to correct or prevent a loss and audit the plan to ensure it’s effectiveness.

  • Attend, assist with, and participate in HSLP professional development activities to ensure a common HSLP approach to issues.

  • Ensure that common and synergistic approaches are used for the disciplines mentioned e.g. , Loss Prevention, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Emergency Response, Hazardous Materials Management and Risk management.

  • Maintain knowledge of changing regulations. Identify areas requiring change, ensuring necessary modification and followup.

  • Advise, assist, and audit line management to ensure that effective Loss Prevention is implemented and working.

  • Ensure that MSHA and state inspections are properly coordinated for regulatory inspections operations.

  • Assist with development, communication, and implementation of sound Loss Control principles, which aid in the control of harm to people, property and process.

  • Assist with development of standards and minimum Loss Control standards for NAOPS.

  • Review accidents and incidents which occur in the area of responsibility.

Training & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field and 1 year experience or 4 years full time experience in HSLP related disciplines. e.g. safety, hazardous materials management, emergency & rapid response, industrial hygiene, occupational health and risk management. Mining experience is preferred.

  • Professional Certification: The candidate can be awarded additional credit for professional certification in HSLP related management such as. CSP, CIH, ASP, CHCM, OHST . Note that these certificates are not single issue certificates but rather certificates which indicate the holder has a broad knowledge of an entire field of HSLP.

  • Emergency response activities, including but not limited to: fire fighter, emergency response team membership (work or public), Ambulance attendant, hazardous materials technician, formal safety committee membership. (Up to two years of equivalent experience can be earned by participation in several of these activities).

  • One month per year experience in a Mining operations or maintenance position for up to one year total credit of related experience.

  • Non-full time experience but formal participation of at least a year within the past three years prior to applying for the position may be included in relevant experience.
