Physical Demands:Work requires some physical exertion such as bending and walking in terrain that is rough, rocky, mountainous and densely vegetated. Required to lift and carry equipment necessary to efficiently perform the work of the position, and to provide for personal comfort and safety. This can include tools, personal protective equipment, food and water for extended periods of work away from vehicles.

Work Environment:Office work is performed in an adequately lighted, ventilated, cooled and heated area. During fieldwork is subject to cuts and bruises, extreme and adverse weather conditions, and injuries and discomforts from pests and animals. Employee will adhere to all safety rules.

Responsibilities

Biological technicians will perform a wide range of activities related to conserving, protecting, and administering wildlife and botany programs, and activities related to landscape restoration projects. Primary duties include surveying, monitoring and compliance checks for sensitive species, section 7 consultations and preparing and reviewing NEPA documents, measuring and monitoring plant populations, coordinating seed collection, propagation, leading restoration planting efforts, collecting, summarizing, and analyzing disturbance data, performing GIS analyses, collaborating across BLM programs and with partner agencies on interdisciplinary and inter-agency projects.

Qualifications

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled.

To Qualilfy for GS-07: Have one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-6 in the federal service. Specialized experience is further defined as: work including surveying, measuring and monitoring wildlife species and plants, work including collecting field data, summarizing data and performing GIS analysis for input into NEPA documents, work including reviewing NEPA and other documents for completing compliance checks for actions affecting sensitive species, -OR- have one year (18 semester hours) of graduate level education in wildlife biology or in a field directly related to the work of this position, -OR- have an equivalent combination of specialized experience and graduate level education described above.

The Bureau of Land Management has determined that the duties of this position may be suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.

Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status in the Federal service, and will be for a period not-to-exceed one year with possible extension up to a total of 4 years (or longer if approved by the Office of Personnel Management) without re-announcement.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
