Intermountain Healthcare Coding Specialist in Las Vegas, Nevada
The purpose of this position is to perform all professional coding responsibilities for an assigned group of clinics and/or providers.
Defined by assigned group of clinics and/or providers.
Applies all coding and billing regulations, policies, processes and procedures for inpatient and outpatient services utilizing CPT, HCPCS and ICD-9-CM diagnosis codes, including CPT modifiers with adherence to NCCI edits.
Abstracts, interprets and reviews medical record documentation in order to assign and select accurate CPT, HCPCS and ICD-9-CM diagnosis codes and associated modifiers.
Updates knowledge and remains current professionally by reviewing annual coding changes / updates, Medical Group coding policies, payer policies / publications, and attending Intermountain coder training, as required.
Maintains national coding certification.
Supports clinic managers in maintaining current encounter forms
Interfaces with physicians and other medical staff in relation to coding related issues (e.g. documentation improvements)
Interacts with other departments and staff, and works effectively in achieving assigned tasks and goals
Actively participates in quality improvement initiatives (i.e. CQI, TQM, Lean, 100% participation, etc.).
Meets established coding and abstracting productivity and quality standards
National Professional Coding Certification (CPC or CCS-P) from an accredited program
Three years of coding experience
Specialty specific coding experience

Coding experience in an ambulatory or clinic practice setting
- and -
Understands and applies medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and disease processes related to specific physician practices.

Knowledge of sequencing diagnoses and procedures codes outlined in the ICD-9-CM Official Coding Guidelines, AMA CPT- instructions, CPT Assistant, and CMS guidelines.

Experience in general computer skills and knowledge
- and -
Experience in providing effective written and verbal communications
