JT4 Computer Scientist - Java in Las Vegas, Nevada

We are recruiting an experienced Java Software Developer to work within a research and development engineering group to be responsible for a wide variety of tasks. The primary tasking will be the implementation of various aspects of a distributed data processing system. We are looking for a dynamic, hardworking software developer who works well in both theoretical and practical domains as part of an iterative process to create innovative solutions for a multitude of data processing challenges.

SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

This position requires the following abilities:

  • Create and manage Spring Boot micro-services with REST endpoints

  • Design interactive Web User Interfaces (UIs) for data processing input and analysis

  • Write and conduct unit tests to ensure developed code executes as intended

  • Implement algorithms as described by domain experts

  • Prototype code to determine design feasibility

  • Design and apply new system architectures for data processing and analysis systems

  • Embrace opportunities to learn new technologies and implement solutions to new subject matter

  • Write requirements documents, theories of operation, etc.

  • Apply sound system engineering principles

  • Proficiency with JDK8, Spring Boot, XML/JSON, SQL and other relevant technologies

GENERAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

Provides software and systems engineering services, generally within a work unit or group.

  • Advises team and project managers on technical problems

  • Interacts with customers and project managers on a regular basis

  • Works independently of direct supervision on projects of high complexity

  • Uses judgment and initiative in developing complex analytical and computational technologies and methodologies for solving problems, which may be technically unique to the industry

  • Interprets customer requirements, develops and analyzes the most appropriate approach to solve technical problems

  • Assists and/or develops the design of the system/software and the associated design documentation. Participates, prepares and conducts design reviews

  • Implements the design through software coding or hardware and documents the implementation appropriately

  • Plans and executes unit, integration, and systems testing

  • Participates in the maintenance and sustainment activities of the system/software

  • May provide work direction or other guidance to lower level technical staff

  • Establishes and maintains positive customer relations

  • May support pursuit of new business efforts, lead proposal efforts, and act as a technical consultant

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Additionally, depending upon experience, the following may also apply:

  • Provides software and systems engineering services, generally as a senior member of a work unit or group.

  • Manages software/system projects, and provides guidance to the technical staff

  • Uses broad judgment in defining and solving technical or managerial issues of the highest complexity or of far reaching significance

  • Captures and manages customer requirements at a system level, develops and analyzes the most appropriate approach to solve complex technical problems

  • Functions as the System Architect overseeing the overall design and configuration management of systems

  • Manages the maintenance and sustainment activities of the system/software

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL AND WORK EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Must have a Bachelor's Degree in an associated discipline and at least 2 years of related experience or have a Master's Degree in an associated discipline

  • Must have experience with computer based systems and applications

  • Must have experience with systems engineering and software development lifecycles

  • Must use superior communications skills, both verbal and written, in day-to-day project activities as well as in briefing customers and in writing reports

  • Must have experience with systems engineering and software development lifecycles

  • Must have programming skills in languages used for job specific programming tasks, and familiarization with the application of industry standard hardware and software design and documentation techniques

  • Must possess planning/organizing skills and have a working knowledge of computer systems and computer-based engineering tools

  • Proficiency with JDK8, Spring Boot, XML/JSON, SQL and other relevant technologies

  • Must qualify for and maintain a government security clearance and must have a valid, current state-issued driver's license

Must possess the ability to:

  • Create and manage Spring Boot micro-services with REST endpoints

Desired:

  • Have a Bachelor's Degree in an associated discipline and at least 10 years of related experience or have a Master's Degree in an associated discipline and at least 6 years of experience, or a PhD in an associated discipline and at least 4 years of experience

  • Have excellent programming skills in languages used for job specific programming tasks

  • Have experience in the application of industry standard hardware and software design and documentation techniques. Applicant must have extensive knowledge of systems engineering and software development lifecycles

  • Proficiency with Groovy, Gradle/Maven, Jenkins/Bamboo, NoSQL and other relevant technologies

WORKING CONDITIONS

Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant sitting while using a computer, constant use of sight abilities while programming and drafting/reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines.
