JMT is seeking a Construction Manager to act as the owner’s agent in support of a federal contract to replace two (2) high head, high volume pumps that deliver potable water through an 8-inch diameter water transmission main to the Grand Canyon Village, approximately 3,000 vertical feet above. The purpose of this project is to replace both of the existing pumps along with all of the associated controls, electrical components, piping, and related appurtenances. The Construction Manager will be responsible for coordinating the contractor’s construction efforts working closely with the owner’s contract representatives. This is a Full-Time position from December 2018 through September 2019 located at the Indian Garden Developed Are in Grand Canyon National Park.

Required Skills

  • OSHA 30 Certification

  • Professional Engineer License (PE) and/or Certified Construction Manager (CCM)

Required Experience

  • Experience working with the National Park Services (NPS)

  • Experience providing similar services for similar projects, specifically inspection and installation of high pressure water pumps of similar size, piping, controls, and associated appurtenances.

  • Education and professional qualifications related to construction, architecture and engineering.

  • Experience providing similar services for remote locations requiring high levels of coordination.

  • Experience providing similar services in environmentally sensitive locations and in historic structures.

  • Ability and willingness to hike in and out of project site. The site location is very remote, located in Indian Gardens, approximately 4.5 miles and 3,000 feet below the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, only accessible by hiking the Bright Angel Trail. Must be able and willing to stay 2-3 nights a week at the NPS provided bunkhouse in Indian Gardens.

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare draft modifications and responses to requests for information, process submittals, and prepare field observation reports.

  • Familiarity with the use of MS SharePoint software. Knowledge of computer programs such as Expedition, SureTrak, Primavera, MS Project, MS Word, and Excel.

  • Effective communication skills: ability to represent the interests of the government in a professional manner and ensure quality of work while maintaining good relationships with contractor and park staff.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
