Position Overview:

The primary responsibility of the Director - Safety is to develop, implement, and oversee the strategic plan of the property-wide safety program, including the creation of policies and procedures. Position will also be responsible for day-to-day management of the Safety department including supervision of Safety Team Members. All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and The Venetian | The Palazzo Casino Resort’s policies, practices, and procedures.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Strategic development of comprehensive property-wide safety program, including policies, procedures, training, and accident and injury prevention programs.

  • Manages and directs the work of Safety department Team Members, including hiring, disciplinary decisions, performance tracking and day-to-day oversight.

  • Monitors departmental and Team Member compliance with safety programs, policies, and procedures.

  • Meets, confers and advises departments on safety-related topics; tracks efficacy of Company and departmental safety programs and provides targeted recommendations.

  • Develops accident, illness, and injury prevention training programs for Team Members and assists departments with implementation of both delivering training, and monitoring efficacy of training programs.

  • Conducts accident-injury investigations involving Team Members and provides detailed reports and recommendations. Oversees accident investigation policies and processes for the Company.

  • Coordinates and collaborates with other departments regarding accident and hazard investigation findings.

  • Compiles, analyzes, and interprets statistical data related to occupational accidents, illnesses, injuries or other environmental hazards and prepares detailed reports and recommendations to business leaders.

  • Provides chemical and other hazard assessments to departments and provides instruction to departments regarding compliance with regulatory standards based on assessments and Safety Data Sheet instructions and recommendations.

  • Conducts announced and unannounced safety inspections in business departments. Creates inspection log and provides written follow-up to departmental leaders regarding all inspections.

  • Creates, updates, and publishes monthly and quarterly safety reports based on inspection results, accident rates, and accident and hazard investigations.

  • Serves as a liaison to governmental and administrative agencies and organizations related to safety.

  • Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this job.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 21 years of age.

  • Proof of authorization/eligibility to work in the United States.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both in spoken and written form.

  • Safety-related certification preferred.

  • A minimum of ten years progressively responsible experience in a corporate safety environment creating, implementing, and monitoring compliance with policies, procedures, and training requirements in accordance with state, local, and federal regulations.

  • Demonstrated experience:

  • Developing training curriculum and delivering safety training; certified OSHA trainer a plus.

  • Conducting accident and hazard investigations and creating accident, injury, and hazard investigation policies and procedures.

  • Implementing and monitoring compliance of a self-inspection safety program.

  • Researching and creating reports regarding workplace hazards specific to the business and providing short and long-term recommendations.

  • Implementing initiatives to reduce and prevent workplace accidents, injuries, and illness.

  • Managing a team of employees in a dynamic corporate environment.

  • Detailed knowledge of:

  • OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations.

  • Current safety-related trends, developments, training, and interventions.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with guests and other Team Members of different backgrounds and levels of experience.

  • Must be able to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Must be able to:

  • Physically access all areas of the property and drive areas, with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Maintain composure under pressure and consistently meet deadlines with internal and external customers and contacts.

  • Ability to interact appropriately and effectively with guests, management, other team members, and outside contacts.

  • Ability, for prolonged periods and with much frequency, to walk, stand, stretch, bend and kneel.

  • Touch and handle supplies in a safe and non-hazardous manner, maintaining proper safety, hygiene, cleanliness, and disposal methods.

  • Use proper personal protective equipment and other safety-related equipment or instruments.

  • Work in a fast-paced and busy environment.

  • Work indoors and be exposed to various environmental factors such as, but not limited to, CRT, noise, dust, and cigarette smoke.
