UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER OF SOUTHERN NEVADA Employee Development Program - Leadership Preparatory Academy in Las Vegas, Nevada

Position Summary

This is a training and development opportunity only. Acceptance into the program does not provide additional compensation. Leadership Preparatory Academy is a six-week program with a weekly three-hour class requirement. This is a voluntary program and will not be paid.

The Employee Development Program is designed to assist qualified and motivated individuals to obtain additional knowledge, skills and experience in pursuit of personal and/or professional goals such as job enhancement or career advancement. While one of the objectives of the Employee Development Program is to assist participants in becoming qualified and competitive in pursuit of promotional opportunities, the program is not a guarantee that the participant will obtain a specific position in the hospital, nor is it a commitment by the hospital to select a program participant for an open position.

The Leadership Preparatory Academy within Employee Development takes interested individuals, in entry level or non-management positions, and provides them with training and foundational leadership skills. This program is a 6-week series that includes classroom, distance learning, book discussions and structured mentoring. Interested individuals should apply for the Employee Development Program and obtain management endorsement in order to participate. These courses focus on leadership principles and theories, soft skills and prepare you for the next step in the larger Employee Development path. There is a limited space available and Leadership Preparatory Academy will be held 4 times a year.

Job Requirement

Interested individuals must complete an application by the close of job posting to be considered. As part of the application, managers will be contacted separately to complete a confidential manager endorsement form after the employee application is received.

To be considered for the program, applicants must have:

  • Successfully completed their probation/qualifying period
  • A 2.0 overall evaluation score on their most recent performance evaluation
  • No documented discipline within the last 12 months.

For the Leadership Preparatory Academy portion of the Employee Development Program: Applicants will need to have access to a computer, be able to attend all 6 classes and complete all outside assignments including, but not limited to: book assignment, mentoring touch bases, and final project. If Applicant is unable to attend one or more of the classes they will need to make them up during the next cohort in order to be able to successfully complete the program. Once the program is successfully completed the student will receive a certificate of completion and be able to note their certification for competitive advantage for future promotional opportunities. This does not guarantee any promotional placement during the competitive hiring process.

Leadership Preparatory Academy Perks: Cohort comradery, exposure and support from senior leadership, mentorship, early career professional development, leadership basics, interview and resume writing skills, networking, serve as program ambassador and completive advantage on promotional opportunities.

Knowledge:Principles and practices related to UMC, its Mission, Vision and Values.

Skills:Performing basic computer skills, comprehension, and communication.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, vision to read printed materials and a VDT screen, stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for extended periods of time, and hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or an eligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
