Position Summary


Position Summary: Responsible for the operations of the Environmental Services Department including formulation of policies and procedures for the department, overall supervision of all personnel and maintenance of a level of services which is consistent with all applicable regulations. Maintains current working knowledge of staff activities and staff as appropriate to ensure a clean, orderly and attractive hospital.

Job Requirement

Distinguishing Characteristics: This is a stand-alone classification which does not fit within a classification series.

Education/Experience: Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree Environmental Health Science, Business Administration, or closely related field and five (5) years experience in an EVS/housekeeping management position in an acute care hospital or similar institution.

Licensing/Certification Requirements: None.

Age Specific Requirements: Individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to assess the needs of and provide services appropriate to the age of the patient/client served on the assigned unit/department. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient''s requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the area''s policies and procedures.

Additional and/or Preferred Position Requirements

Preferred :

  • Recent experience (within 5 years) supervising healthcare environmental services;
  • Previous experience working and/or managing in a unionized environment Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements

Knowledge of: Leadership and managerial theories and principles; budgeting theories and principles; hospital infection control, sanitation protocols, and cleaning methods; safety and health standards required in patient care facilities; developing in-service training programs; department and hospital safety practice and procedures; patient rights; age specific patient care practices; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.

Skill in: Managing multiple projects; developing interpersonal relations with a variety of people; resolving EVS/housekeeping, linen, and landscaping problems; developing, implementing and enforcing departmental policies and procedures; interpreting and analyzing TJC guidelines to ensure compliance with TJC requirements; writing effective reports; preparing budget requests including labor cost, equipment, and material requirements; interacting effectively with all levels within the organization; working in a fast paced, service oriented environment; handling multiple projects and changing priorities; using computers and related software applications; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.

Salary: $20.82 - $32.27 Hourly
