You are responsible for leading a group of UX and Visual Designers; significantly contributing to both the product vision and driving execution, working closely and collaboratively with product managers, software engineers, and many others to solve complex challenges and craft powerful experiences that make life less complicated for our customers.
You are a leader with an outstanding intuition, a sense for clean, Scandinavian, design and you are committed to creating elegantly simple user experiences from otherwise complex workflows. You also take time to understand performance side of design, and the business aspects of the products. Finally, you genuinely enjoy mentoring and developing UX and Visual Designers, helping them grow to excel at their craft.
The Vice President (VP) Design is responsible for leading a team of digital designers. The position will lead the digital design teams and will oversee setting the design vision, strategy, workflow and team structure to achieve world-class design status for the business. Primary responsibility of the position will be all digital touch points (app, web, bots, messaging, digital screens) and will work in conjunction with the other creative teams within the marketing organization.
All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and MGM Resorts International policies, practices, and procedures.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead, grow, mentor and manage the Product Design practice at MGM Resorts
Define our design strategy at MGM Resorts, short and long term, and work with the team to execute against our principles
Balance product, business, and user-centered goals to ship products users love
Advocate for customers and for design in a fast-paced corporate climate, imparting day-to-day design leadership that fosters a shared understanding of the user-centric intersection between design, content, operations and engineering
Influence decisions by communicating research-backed insights concepts and designs to a variety of audiences
Become an active participant of the leadership team, and serve as a mentor within the company
Set best practices and standards related to UX/UI across products and features - with a love for creating a cohesive design aesthetic across our key digital surfaces (app, mobile web, web)
Partner with key cross-business stakeholders to efficiently implement customer experiences, digital and physical, that are cohesive, inclusive and well-informed
Partner with creative and brand teams to ensure strong visual design and consistent brand expression across products
Partner with product management and engineering to set product strategy
Maintain a pulse on trending best practices within the various industries that MGM Resorts extend into, to set and maintain visual aesthetic and experiential standards
Work with design leads on planning, staffing, budgeting, managing priorities
Empower and mentor members of the design team, fostering a collaborative, productive, and positive environment within a growing team
Perform other job-related duties as requested.
REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
Six (6)+ years’ experience designing for products within a consumer-focused tech, hospitality or retail company, with experience in the intersection between digital and physical experiences preferred
PREFERRED:
5+ years’ experience managing high performing design teams
Background in several of our key categories (hotel, gaming, restaurants and entertainment)
Previous experience from attracting and hiring top design talent, during a scale-up phase
