POSITION SUMMARY

The HR generalist will be responsible for HR operational functions and the delivery of a full spectrum of human resource programs and activities for the hourly and salaried employees at the Nevada, Arizona, and Washington Gypsum plants – ensuring an excellent experience for employees and internal customers. The HR Generalist has an active role in supporting the Plants’ HR Managers and Supervisors, employees and managers, to include the areas of onboarding, performance management, compensation, benefits and HR operations, supporting special projects and co-leading the People Development Pillar. The HR generalist role is critical in cultivating a culture of engagement, entrepreneurship, stakeholder focus and drives continuous improvement in the HR function working with the shared services teams to identify and eliminate non-value added tasks. With a mindset towards excellence this role will contribute to the plants achieving financial goals through organizational development and employee collaboration.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Responsible for day-to-day HR operational functions, interpretation and coordination of SG and HR policies, procedures and programs related to employment, compensation, benefits and performance management.

  • Guides and coaches as needed in response to inquiries regarding HR policy, guideline issues, incentives, severance, pre-employment screening, employment verification, holidays, and vacation.

  • Is responsible for the accuracy and integrity of data in the HRIS system and for CertainTeed Gypsum US Western businesses, ensuring credible information is available on a timely basis, including but not limited to Gypsum hourly employees, termination, promotion, transfer data, rate changes and job codes creation.

  • Manages Employee Leaves of Absence including but not limited to, tracking and reporting of Family Medical Leave , Disability (Short Term/Long Term Disability) activity with TPA (third party administrator), coordinate paperwork and system updates for all leaves of absences, , maintain medical file for Employee, follow up and communicate with the employee as needed with Employee and leave service providers. Initiate change in status within HRIS system as needed.

  • Manages and ensures compliance with applicable legal requirements.

  • Support site Regional HR Managers and Supervisors on areas including employee relations, performance management, and coach employees in various human resources management matters including interpersonal issues, training, and career development.

  • Conducts the annual internal HR audit to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures

  • Organizes and ensures the required collection of training data, ensuring all training events, sessions and rosters are documented and captured for annual reporting as well as ISO compliance. Compiles data and completes Corporate HR file for yearly NER reporting.

  • Is the HRIS super-user for the West Region - Creates, runs, and distributes ad-hoc HRIS reports, including but not limited to leave absence, employee rosters, labor allocation, reporting relationships, and individual management requests as directed.

  • Identifies and proactively defuses risk and potential liability with respect to management issues in conjunction with site Regional HR Managers.

  • Problem solving situations which involve the investigation and resolution of employee and labor relations issues with recommendation for resolution in coordination with appropriate authority.

  • Performs analysis including a variety of human resource metrics and benchmarking data.

  • Flexibility and patience to effectively coach employees on constantly changing priorities, cultural challenges, and dealing comfortably with issues involving ambiguity.

  • Conducting New Hire Orientation guiding new employees through onboarding process including explanation of payroll/overtime and SG policies. Oversees and ensures documentation is completed for functional new hire training – in accordance with ISO and employee experience goals.

  • Assist the site Regional Human Resources Managers on various high-level projects and activities and work closely with site HR’s using a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the Company’s policies, procedures, and benefits.

  • At plant level, work with site Regional HR’s on administering various employee benefit programs and provide support/coverage to the plants when site HR is absent.

  • Provide benefit support to all employees with issues like Life Status Changes, enrollment issues, etc.

  • Ensures compliance at Nevada, Arizona, and Washington Region plants in accordance with the ICRF and conduct plant audits for adherence.

  • Effective time management and maintain integrity and confidentiality in all matters – active listening, responding and resolution to employee issues and concerns.

  • Assist with recruiting, new hire processing and tracking activity as outlined by SGC/CT policies and procedures along with presenting the HR/Benefits programs as needed.

  • Internal contacts involve hourly, supervisory personnel throughout the plants, as well as their subordinates; contacts also involve Corporate Human Resources and Regional Teams.

  • Outside contacts may involve recruiting sources, state and federal agency representatives, insurance carriers, and community service agencies.

  • Cross-functional collaboration and execution between local plant departments, Central resources within the CertainTeed Gypsum businesses to identify and provided consistent and scalable cohesive standards.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs other related duties and responsibilities as directed. Also provides coaching and/or direction to our employees as requested in alignment within Saint Gobain Attitudes, Principles of Conduct and Action.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Business or a Human Resource related field or equivalent training and experience.

  • Requires 3 – 5 or more years’ direct experience in human resource functions, including previous generalist experience.

  • Expertise in current and relevant HR legislation (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, Health & Safety, etc.)

  • Requires 1 – 2 years of experience with recruitment, leave management, compensation and benefits.

  • Adaptability, customer and stakeholder focus orientation, and problem solving skills.

  • Experience with worker’s compensation and benefits programs.

  • Solid knowledge of HRIS computer software programs and systems (PeopleSoft preferred) as well as Microsoft Office & Access.

  • Must have excellent written/verbal skills.

  • Ability to working in a fast paced, multitasking environment.

  • Core competencies include strong analytical and reporting skills, change agent, dealing with conflict management, leading people through change, sense of urgency, decisiveness, integrity, excellent and proven communications skills, ability to make appropriate decisions and to work effectively at all levels of the plants and organization.

  • Strong commitment to providing customer service in a timely manner in a fast paced enjoinment with changing priorities

PREFERRED OR DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in a multi-plant unionized environment.

  • Demonstrated recruiting, sourcing, and behavioral based interviewing.

  • Demonstrated leave management.

  • Possession of, or working towards, a PHR/SPHR designation.

  • Familiarity with Western US States (Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, Washington, Kansas) employment and leave laws.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Office environment requiring long periods of sitting in meetings and/or using a computer and phone. Travel required 25% of time. This position will work within multiple time zones. This position will require flexibility to support 2nd and 3rd shift employees in a 24/7 operations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Travel required by air and auto. Plant area requires wearing personal protective equipment. May require access via steps or stairs and have uneven terrain. There also may be exposure to dust, noise, chemicals and temperature changes.
