The Mob Museum Security Manager in Las Vegas, Nevada

Position Overview:

The Security Manager serves as the primary advocate for and implementer of security and safety standards at the Museum and offsite offices. This position serves as the main advisor for recommending and implementing security and safety protocols and policies, in addition to managing personnel in the security function. Furthermore, this individual will manage safety training programs for employees, coordinate security investigations, and lead crisis response efforts. The Security Manager reports to the Chief Operating Officer while closely coordinating work with the Manager-on-Duty and the Museum?s public operating departments.

Major Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the development and implementation of the organization?s security and safety policies, standards, and procedures.

  • Working closely with the Manager of Facilities, ensure that the Museum complies with all statutory requirements related to building security, health and safety, including but not limited to, OSHA, Building, Fire and ADA regulations.

  • Communicate regularly with federal, state, local, police and fire contacts to obtain up-to-date information on hazardous conditions/materials, accidents, regulations, licenses, inspections, codes and laws. Circulate appropriate updates to management and staff.

  • Recruit, train, supervise and provide professional development of all security staff.

  • Ensure that all security personnel have current certifications.

  • Provide the highest standard levels of guest service throughout the course of standard operating situations and incident management (injuries, evacuations, ejections, etc.).

  • Contribute meaningfully in the development of operational planning of atypical or high-attendance events such as peak days, free days, private events, and public programs and planning related to external events such as Life is Beautiful, Rally in the Alley, bike week, parades, protests, construction, roadwork/road closures, etc.

  • Manage asset protection, workplace violence prevention, access control systems, and video surveillance.

  • Monitor all computer alarm points and security cameras on property, dispatching and documenting security movement and activity as appropriate.

  • Coordinate with the Technology Department to ensure CCTV, access control, and alarm systems provide for adequate security infrastructure and are operating as expected.

  • Oversee incident response planning as well as incident investigation and reporting.

  • Assist with disciplinary and legal matters associated with such breaches as necessary.

  • Maintain confidentiality in related to staff, volunteer, or vendor matters.

  • Ensure that all aspects of the facility meet required safety code(s) by inspecting the facility for potential hazards, managing equipment, floorplans and reviewing maintenance logs.

  • Produce and facilitate safety training programs for employees, including life safety evacuation, emergency procedures, fire extinguisher training, hazard communication, blood borne pathogens, slips / trips / falls, CPR, AED, and first aid.

  • Respond to elevated security/ crisis situations, including on-site crisis management, after-hour responses and weather-related crisis duties.

  • Investigate property damage claims and losses, submit reports to the third-party claims administration and assist in property claims management.

  • Respond to and investigate safety issues and implement programs to minimize future incidents.

  • Disseminate required safety information to appropriate personnel and track safety data per federal, state, and local requirements.

  • Manage third-party contract security provider, if applicable.

  • Manage the organization?s vehicle fleet, ensuring driver access is consistent with the approved driver list, and coordinating vehicle maintenance with the Facilities Manager.

  • Manage annual budget for security department ensuring that operations are in accordance with approved budget/forecast.

  • Participate in fostering an organizational culture that values innovation, promotes inclusion, and inspires excellence in the work environment.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience / Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Two years of broad-based security experience in a cultural, educational, and/or entertainment attraction is preferred.

  • Five years of experience in a related field (law enforcement, private security, military, corporate security, etc.) is required.

  • Demonstrated experience and training in life safety evacuation, emergency procedures, fire extinguisher training, blood borne pathogens, powered industrial equipment, CPR, AED and first aid.

  • Valid PILB work card required within 30 days of appointment.

  • Understanding, experience and ability to safely utilize law enforcement/security tools and equipment such as fire arms, taser guns, stun guns, batons, defense sprays, restraints, and PPE.

  • Knowledge of electronic scanning and monitoring systems.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are required

  • Excellent training and facilitation skills.

  • Able to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.

  • Able to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations.

  • Able to effectively gather and analyze facts, draw conclusions, define problems, and suggest solutions.

  • Experience handling sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.

  • Eagerness for solving problems and a commitment to accepting responsibility.

  • Able to work some evenings, weekends and respond to some calls 24/7.

  • A valid driver?s license in good standing is required.

  • Able to stand for extended periods, regularly traverse between and throughout the exhibit floors, traverse outdoors, and to meet the physical and psychological demands of leading building evacuations and responding to other emergency situations such as injuries, guest ejections, etc.

  • Enthusiasm for working in a developing organization where change is frequent, structure is evolving, and flexibility, teamwork, and good humor are absolute necessities.

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a college degree is preferred.
