LPD operates with four key businesses: Controlled Temperature Technologies (CTT), Growth, Protection and Separation (GPS); Water and Lab Products (WLP); and Laboratory Plastics Essentials (LPE).

Laboratory Plastics Essentials (LPE) products include sample preparation and storage products such as centrifugation consumables as well as vials and organization systems for ultra-low temperature and cryogenic storage, with specific products designed for low protein binding and transport of bulk intermediates and active pharmaceutical ingredients. Additionally, our offerings include a complete selection of clinical specimen collection, drug-of-abuse collection kits and environmental and food-safety glass and plastic vials, bottles and containers, plastic transfer pipettes, general purpose clinical laboratory consumables and containers for breast milk collection storage and feeding primarily used in neo-natal units and by lactation specialists. We also provide OEM and custom kit assembly services for clinical and drugs-of-abuse test kits. In addition, our laboratory pipette tips and a complementary range of handheld and automated pipetting systems support low- to high-throughput laboratory activity. These products optimize productivity and ergonomics and ensure accurate results. Our iconic Nalgene water bottles are sold to consumers under the Nalgene Outdoor brand name and are manufactured in our Rochester, New York plant.

Position is located at our US - Arizona - Tempe (Relocation benefits will be offered)

How will you make an impact?

The Staff Scientist will serve as a scientific expert in techniques of molecular biology, including next-generation sequencing, microarrays and polymerase chain reaction. As a member of a team of Field Application Scientists, the candidate will provide their scientific expertise in the biotech/biopharma industries to integrate Laboratory Plastic Essential portfolio (consumables, software and instruments) into workflows based on various applications in validated and regulated segments, provide applications/technical support and training to customers. The candidate will work with a multi-disciplinary cross-divisional matrix team, for example, commercial representatives, product management, R&D scientists, field application scientists and marketing development managers.

What will you do?

  • Develop applications that involve the use of Laboratory Plastic Essential products.

  • Conduct research to generate data highlighting the use of supported products in biotech/biopharma workflows utilizing techniques in molecular biology.

  • Design experimental plans, analyze experimental data, perform quantitative analyses, generate laboratory protocols, and write technical reports and product summaries.

  • Present workflows by creating technical marketing materials, including application notes, peer-reviewed publications and presenting data at scientific conferences and webinars.

  • Provide field support to our sales organization by providing customers with technical guidance (pre and post-sales activities).

  • Provide internal training across commercial teams and business units as needed.

  • Partner with technical scientists across divisions to create cross-divisional workflows.

  • Stay current on scientific and industry trends and participate in VOC to understand customer needs.

  • Provide market sensing mechanism, identifying new opportunities and highlighting gaps in the current portfolio.

  • Interface with commercial, R&D, product management, and marketing teams.

  • Support internal business and product development efforts through feedback on the innovation pipeline

How will you get here?

Education

  • PhD in molecular biology is strongly preferred.

  • MS or BS in molecular biology plus a minimum of 3 years of experience in the biotech or biopharmaceutical industry

Experience

  • Requires a minimum of 3 years' experience (industry preferred) with methods and techniques of molecular biology, including PCR, NGS and/or microarray experience.

  • Minimum 3 years' experience with automated liquid handling expertise preferred, with experience including multiple vendor platforms.

  • Experience in writing commercially focused scientific and applications literature.

  • Experience with conducting VoC, participating in new product development programs, and representing customer needs.

  • Successful candidates will have research experience in molecular biology techniques, specifically Next-Generation Sequencing applications, including hands-on experience with library construction, clonal amplification, reagent formulation and use of the Ion Torrent platform is desirable.

  • Experience in planning and executing application projects to support product strategy and sales.

  • Authored scientific publications related to research in molecular biology is highly preferred.
