This position is home-based and is responsible for accounts inCalifornia, Utah, Arizona, and Nevada and therefore the incumbent will need to live in this region.

The Director, State and Strategic Client Relations will be a field leader and professional with autonomy to make decisions in the areas of client relations, government relations and state strategies in assigned states. This position will be assigned strategic client accounts as a single point of accountability, ensuring client expectations are met (academic, operations, financial), negotiating and renewing existing client contracts, and be the client’s advocate regarding client requests. The Director will monitor and be accountable for P/L performance of strategic client accounts and identify upsell opportunities to meet client needs. Additional responsibilities include developing strategies and tactics to educate, inform, interpret and influence public policies that support the development of new and existing online learning schools and programs. This position is also responsible for building, nurturing and enlisting the support of a network of state-based advocates including education, legislative, community influencers, business leaders, and families. In assigned states and collaborating with many internal teams, this position will create state-specific strategy plans for improving existing client relationships, the regulatory climate, OBL reputation and thought leadership, and new business development opportunities. The Director will, when and where appropriate, identify, recommend and nurture a diverse group of board members for clients with governing boards. This is a non-management position and reports to the Vice President, State and Strategic Client Relations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Retain and strengthen existing client relationships;

  • Strategic account management including contract renewal, account strategy plans and P/L responsibility;

Work with state-based lobbyists and advocates to influence legislation, regulations and policies affecting the spectrum of online and blended learning;

  • Develop state-based strategy plans;

Cultivate ongoing relationships with regulators, online learning allies, influencers, customer board members (where applicable) in assigned states;

Additional duties and tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements:

5 years in strategic account sales, education sales, new school development, strategic account management, government relations, lobbying or business development;

Bachelor’s degree required, Masters in education, business, law or public policy a plus;

  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time;

  • Must reside within a reasonable distance of an airport with regularly scheduled commercial airline service;

  • Must occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds;

  • Possess a valid drivers license.

Knowledge of and experience in education and/or governmental affairs, specifically online and blended learning;

Superior written and verbal communication, analytical and organizational skills, and presentation skills;

Strong technology skills relating to electronic communications, web research, and productivity tools;

  • Effective time management practices.
