Reporting to the Manager, External Communications, the Public Relations Specialist will support public relations strategy across all business areas for the assigned market. The Specialist is responsible for all elements of media relations, and will work collaboratively with other members of the team to help build the reputation of AAA as a leading advocate for traffic safety.

Essential Functions:

  • Serves as the main spokesperson for the media in the assigned market.

  • Executes the organization’s media strategy, localizing the thought leadership framework, messaging tracks and media targets.

  • Serves as a counselor to the organization’s business leaders in marketing, travel, membership and other business services to inform and execute for key moments in time for their area of work.

  • Works collaboratively with business leaders within the organization to mine interesting stories and proof points.

  • Prepares talking points and messaging materials for media engagement for organization announcements, initiatives or campaigns.

Essential Skills:

  • Excellent writer and editor with advanced understanding of writing for AP style.

  • Experience working with media and serving as a spokesperson for both print and broadcast outlets, including on-camera.

  • Relationships with media outlets, including print, online, and broadcast journalists.

  • Comfort managing multiple workstreams simultaneously, and ability to prioritize effectively.

  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and drive results as an individual contributor.

  • Understanding of media and public relations measurement to track and quantify impact.

  • Demonstrates sound judgment and critical thinking skills.

  • Experience in crisis communication or issue management a plus.

Education & Experience

  • BA/BS in Communication, Journalism, or related field.

  • 5+ years of PR, media and corporate communication experience, including experience working directly with executives.

  • Experience working at a PR agency or other client-service oriented role a plus.

  • Spanish fluency preferred, including bilingual spokesperson experience.
