Position Purpose: Responsible for supporting the development of clinical information systems & information technology that assist clinicians in the delivery of evidence-based patient care. Serves as an advocate in promoting the use of information technology to provide current evidence-based treatment guidelines at the point of care. Works in partnership with Information Resources to translate clinician requirements into specifications for new clinical information systems. Works with education services to ensure the development of education plans to support continuous adoption of new clinical information functionality. Serves as liaison with medical staff leadership to support medical staff implementation of evidence-based clinical information functionality . The incumbent will work closely with both the Clinical Pharmacist(s) and the Pharmacy Systems Coordinator(s) in order to communicate and facilitate changes within the pharmacy departments (inpatient and outpatient) that align with evidence-based practice for medication treatments and protocols. The incumbent will be responsible for standardizing pharmacy practices across the care continuum to ensure that our patients receive evidence-based medication regimens through all care delivery areas throughout Renown Health. The CIS pharmacists will be responsible for facilitating conversations and engaging providers and other pharmacists in collaboration to ensure that standardization is achieved.

Nature and Scope: The Clinical Informatics Specialist-Pharmacist will be responsible for the establishment and management of a centralized process for Renown Health’s need for evidence-based medicine and information standardization, education, communication and compliance. The position is responsible for coordination and execution of deliverables related to the Electronic Medical Record..

The role will also be responsible for managing the organization’s library of order sets, care plans and their respective processes. Will monitor when changes are needed to order sets/care plans and when they are due for reassessment. During software and process implementation, will gather information recommendations for software configuration options to meet internal requirements. Will define security rights for the team of owners and reviewers. After software implementation, will assist in assessing, maintaining and optimizing use of the software. The incumbent will be the power user (subject matter expert) for software functionality, training, review and approval process and entire order/plan catalogs. The primary role of the CIS-Pharmacist is to maintain the formulary within the evidence-based content manager and to assist with standardizing medication treatments in all care delivery areas for Renown Health. The CIS Pharmacists will develop and maintain the build standards document in order to standardize medication build across the care network. Responsible for ongoing assessment and development of pharmacy clinical drug protocols and activities along with the other Pharmacy Clinical Specialist(s). Identify the pharmacotherapy and medication-use training needs of other health care professionals caring and deliver effective training to those health care professionals. Prior to software/process implementation: Consult users, leadership, vendors, and technicians to inventory current order sets and care plans, and assess needs, priorities and requirements.

During the software/process implementation:

Work with vendor project team members and internal resources to document the workflow for authoring, reviewing and approving order set and care plan content.

Implement the approved workflow for authoring, reviewing and approving order sets and care plans in scope for the projects.

Work with the vendor project team members and internal resources to develop and document the authoring (build) standards for drafting and revising order set and care plan content.

Ensure all team members are authoring order set content according to the standards established.

Participate in all vendor site visits and training events.

Serve as an effective leader, trainer, coach and developer of team members assigned to build and update order sets and care plans.

Become the power user for the software and internal resource for questions.

Oversee the development and approval of internal communication and escalation plans.

During and after the software/process implementation:

Oversee the assignment of authoring and reviewing efforts for order set and care plan content.

Advocate for the adoption of standardized, evidence based order sets and care plans internally.

Work with the organizational leadership to promote participation in the development and review of order set and care plan content.

Meet with department heads, managers, and supervisors to seek cooperation and resolve disagreement or concerns related to order set content.

Post implementation:

Oversee the operational use of the software to develop and maintain evidence based order sets and care plans for the organization.

Stay current on software functionality and updated enhancements, as well as best practices throughout the industry.

Oversee development and implementation of a plan to maintain authoring standards and continue to allocate resources needed for ongoing authoring of order set and care plan content.

Oversee access to paper and electronic copies of approved order sets and care plans for use when CPOE system may be unavailable. This position does not provide patient care. Minimum Qualifications: Requirements – Required and/or Preferred Education: Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Bachelor’s degree in business management, healthcare or related field required. Master’s degree in business management, healthcare or finance preferred. Experience: Two years of full-time work experience as a licensed pharmacist of which six (6) months of work experience with pharmacy technology/information system or experience within an acute care clinical pharmacy is preferred. Experience in leading organizational change, in developing positive rapport with staff members who may be resistant to change, and in motivating others to complete their tasks in a timely manner strongly preferred. License(s): Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Pharmacist license. Certification(s): N/A Computer / Typing: Microsoft Office proficient, strong computer skills. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. Must have the ability to learn new software and assist (train) others.
