General Summary: Responsible for the direction, coordination and delivery of business process improvement projects. Responsible for leading and influencing cross-organizational and cross-functional teams to deliver projects in a complex environment. Engages with executive and business unit leadership teams to ensure collaborative solutions meet short- and long-term goals.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Safety: Demonstrates excellent safety habits through adherence to all safety rules and procedures. Promotes safety culture with safety messages during meetings, recognizing partners and leading by example. Prioritizes safety impacts and considerations during all stages of change management and project execution. Ensures Safety procedures/protocols compliance verifying that all the tools and equipment are available and in good condition.

  • People: Participates in department/DC meetings. Promotes use of Lean Six Sigma methodology and tools. Mentors, coaches, and provides oversight to Green Belts, Yellow Belts, & other team members for all Six Sigma projects. Develops and maintains training materials, and conducts training for Yellow Belts and Green Belts. Deliver impactful changes that make work and life better for our partners. Seeks stakeholder feedback, incorporates it into solutions development and gives credit where it is due.

  • Process: Provides project leadership as it pertains to cost savings, efficiency improvement, and/or quality improvement, for both operational and transactional processes. Collaborates with business unit leaders and process owners on data analysis and interpretation to achieve identification, selection, prioritization of improvement projects, and identification and reduction/elimination of chronic sources of waste. Ensures compliance to established best practices through audits, stakeholder feedback and structured reviews. Communicates identified gaps in process compliance to leadership and collaborate to support the development of corrective action plans. Escalates gaps in process compliance when appropriate to ensure no negative impact to the business. Follows all prescribed project management protocols using defined tools and templates

  • Continuous Improvement: Develops and manages people directly and manage people as part of a team. Leads the development and delivery of Petco’s Lean Program to success and manage related projects. Develops strategies for roll out of continuous improvement projects. Leads meetings reporting the status of all projects to Business Unit Management. Performs capability and other statistical assessments. Oversees and manages project budgets. Develops and manages business cases / proposals. Leads multi-function teams to achieve desired outcomes. Solves problems autonomously with site leaders across multiple regions. Executes Six Sigma / Lean projects across the network of distribution centers (DCs). Ensures sustainment of continuous improvement (CI) project results across the network through maintenance of SOPs (standard operating procedures) and audit program. Facilitates quarterly business reviews and business critical reporting across all DCs. Monitors actual results versus budget and forecast. Performs root cause analysis for KPIs (key performance indicators) that are missing goal and develops action plans to course correct results. Attends formal training or conferences to continue personal and professional growth with respect to domain knowledge, skills, etc. Completes assigned training to develop strategic and functional skills. Generates cost savings/avoidance by executing CI projects and initiatives that creates a continuous ROI (return on investment) for the team.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related technical field, or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in quality, manufacturing, continuous improvement, and/or Lean Six Sigma.

  • Six Sigma Black Belt or Master Black Belt (required) certification by a reputable academy / company with practical manufacturing application.

  • MS Office (Excel, Visio, Access, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).

  • WMS/LMS use and configuration.

  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally.

  • Familiar with the use of statistical software (MINITAB preferred).

  • Highly energetic & self-driven, motivated to succeed.

  • Strong time and project management skills.

  • Given the team may be geographically spread across US, the jobholder may be expected to work additional hours as required to meet deadlines or project requirements.
