Ormat Technologies, Inc. Manager - Global Trade Compliance in Reno, Nevada

POSITION SUMMARY

Ormat is a leading company in the renewable energy sector, the company provides fully integrated geothermal solution including: exploring, designing, developing, building, owning and operating geothermal power plants around the world. . The company's main production facilities are based in Yavne, Israel. Ormat is seeking a Manager of Global Trade Compliance. This is a new position. The Manager of Global Trade Compliance will be responsible for creating Ormat’s worldwide import and export compliance structure and activities. This position will act as a subject matter expert for all import and export trade compliance matters for the organization. This person will be accountable for all customs and export related operations and compliance with all import-export laws, provide strategic advice to the company on trade matters (both operations, tactical, and strategic), and orchestrate a global export-import compliance program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Serve as key subject matter expert (SME) for the corporation in terms of export and import regulations, compliance, classification, export licensing, and any and all other trade compliance related functions

  • Develop, implement, and enforce a comprehensive worldwide Trade Compliance Program (both imports and exports) for Ormat to include:

  • Policies and procedures as it relates to all import and export activities, deemed exports, technology transfers, etc.

  • Import/export compliance training for Ormat personnel

  • Creation, rollout, and enforcement of internal and external audit program for all import/export operations and activities

  • Enforcement of policies, procedures, standard operating procedures, etc. across the organization and with 3rd party providers

  • Update program as required

  • Manage Customs/import compliance program and Customs Brokers

  • Maintains awareness of international activity, trends, upcoming changes to regulations effecting import and export operations, international trade environment, etc.

  • Manage Export compliance program and data filers

  • Responsible for and oversee assignment of HTS classifications for imported products and components

  • Responsible for and oversee assignment of ECCN determinations and Export License determinations/ license application process

  • Responsible for and oversee applicability of NAFTA and other applicable FTA’s determinations; manage related documentation for imported/exported goods

  • The ability to travel for long distances by car and air

  • Must possess at any time a valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to ORMAT’s auto insurance carrier

  • Must be able to operate a vehicle in a safe manner

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strong collaboration and strategic influencing skills, demonstrated ability to bring together multiple diverse stakeholders to achieve objectives

  • Support Global Logistic activities, as needed

  • Other duties and projects as assigned

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • International trade experience, focusing on both import and export trade compliance matters

  • Knowledge and application of engineering terminology preferred

  • Experience and knowledge of power generation and/or marine engineering preferred

  • Experience or knowledge of Oilfield/ drilling technology and equipment preferred

  • Experience in logistics

  • Extensive knowledge and SME in all related import and export regulations including, but not limited to: U.S. Customs Regulations; Export Administration Regulations; Office of Foreign Assets Controls Regulations; Foreign Trade Regulations;

  • Exceptional oral and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills enabling communication with professionals and employees at all levels within the organization

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver novel and practical solutions to solve complex compliance/international logistics issues

  • HTS classification expertise (steel pipe & tube, valves, pumps, turbines, generators, and ancillary power generating and control equipment, helpful)

  • Free Trade Agreement experience preferred (i.e., Israel, Korea, NAFTA, U.S. Goods Returned)

  • Experience managing Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarder’s in regard to compliance activities

  • U.S. Customs Broker’s License preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The ability to work at a computer, and computer monitor, and use repetitive motion for long periods of time

  • The ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds

  • This position requires sitting 80% of the time and standing and walking 20% of the time

  • The ability to work nonstandard working hours (early morning, late evening) if required, due to the different time zone with global operations
